"The Book of Mormon" leads the full winner list of 2011 Tony Awards. The religious satire musical rakes in nine prizes out of 14 nominations, beating the likes of "Anything Goes" and even "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying" which stars Daniel Radcliffe.
The musical grabs Best Musical award as well as Scenic Design of a Musical trophy. It also helps Trey Parker, Robert Lopez and Matt Stone bag Best Book of a Musical and Best Original Score (Music and/or Lyrics) Written for the Theater kudos.
Racing behind "The Book of Mormon" is "War Horse" with five awards, including Best Play. The play, which is based on the book of the same name, also snatches Best Lighting Design of a Play, Sound Design of a Play, and Direction of a Play trophies. Through the play, Rae Smith wins Best Scenic Design of a Play award.
"Jerusalem" and "Good People" are among plays and musicals winning one award each. "Jerusalem" takes home Best Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role in a Play kudo for Mark Rylance, while "Good People" boosts Frances McDormand to grab Best Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role in a Play.
The special awards are presented to Handspring Puppet Company and Lookingglass Theatre Company. The puppetry performance and design company wins Special Tony Award for "creating lifelike horses". In the meantime, the theater company receives Regional Theatre Tony Award.
